In ancient Crete, a monster (Milo Malagoli) called the Minotaur (half bull, half man) can only be satisfied by virgin sacrifices. The evil ruler of Crete is determined to keep the monster happy by sacrificing as many of the island's virgins as he can, but a pair of friends are determined to kill the monster and stop the sacrifices. Bob Mathias won a gold medal in the decathlon at the 1948 Olympic Games in London. He later won a gold medal in the decathlon at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki. Thus making him the first athlete to win consecutive titles in this event.

In 1954, Mathias and his ex-wife Melba Mathias, then married for 8 months, appeared together on the TV show You Bet Your Life (1950), which was hosted by Groucho Marx. They won the semi-finals, but missed the $1,500 question.

In 1996 doctors discovered a cancerous tumor in Mathias' throat. Ten years later, on September 2nd, 2006, he died from throat cancer. He was 75.
